As you may have heard in the news, there has been an increase in high-profile data breaches that exposed sensitive personal information for billions of consumers. In addition, we have clients who have received calls from scammers identifying themselves as Charles Schwab employees in an attempt to gain access to their accounts. In light of this, we are sending reminders on how you can help protect yourself and your information.
 
Freeze your credit.
This prevents new accounts from being opened in your name without your authorization. Freezes are easy to initiate and lift online at each of the three major credit bureaus:

Monitor your credit reports.
Regularly review your credit report for unauthorized or suspicious activity. Here is a link to obtain a free annual credit report: www.annualcreditreport.com
 
Be on the lookout for scammers!
Data breaches can provide scammers with more personal information, making them appear more convincing. Be cautious of unsolicited calls, texts, or emails asking for your personal details. If you are unsure about a communication, immediately contact your financial institution directly using the phone number listed on your official account statement or reach out to Summit directly.
